The Logies continues to remain in the headlines, this time for a controversial tweeting fiasco on Sunday night.

The Age columnist, Catherine Deveny, was sacked yesterday following s series of crude and offensive tweets during the awards night.

Deveny tweeted, “I hope Bindi gets laid” and “Rove and Tasma look so cute.. I hope she doesn’t’ die too..”

The backlash by the media was so bad that the newspaper terminated her role as a senior writer.

But, Deveny has hit back today, saying that the publication has in fact succumbed to commercial tabloid pressures by making the decision.

Deveney today said that her posts were taken out of context.

“It was just passing notes in class, but suddenly these notes are being projected into the sky and taken out of context,” she said.

“This [the Bindi Irwin comment] was a ludicrous remark that was as ridiculous as me saying I hope the dog that Molly Meldrum brought with him got drunk.”

“I meant every single word. I love Rove. I worked for Rove for five years. I’ve publicly said and printed I would take a bullet for him. He endorsed my first book on the front cover.”

The Age editor in Chief Paul Ramadge made the call to ask her to move on, and stands by his decision.

“We are appreciative of the columns Catherine has written for The Age over several years but the views she has expressed recently on Twitter are not in keeping with the standards we set at The Age,” Ramadge wrote in The Age.

Disgraced Western Australian politician Troy Buswell has officially resigned as the state treasurer.

West Australian Premier Colin Barnett accepted his resignation and said his friend had run out of political “lives”.

Mr. Barnett held a press conference today and told the media pack there his decision as made after revelations of his affair and admissions that he often used taxpayers’ funds.

It is believed Mr. Buswell used workers money to pay for hotels and other expenses to accommodate his affair.

“You have no lives left. There is no excuse” is what the state leader said he told Mr. Buswell.

“He has however, showed very poor judgment.”

The affair as apparently with Greens MP Adele Carles, and although it is not a sackable offence, it just added to a growing list of no-no’s the politician had.

“While I consider the relationship between Troy and Ms Carles a personal matter, Troy’s actions in relation to the use of his Government entitlements in this matter is unacceptable,” Mr. Barnett added in a statement.

“As a result, this morning I informed the Treasurer that I believed his position as Treasurer and Minister was now untenable. Troy offered me his resignation, which I accepted. This was the appropriate course of action.”

Mr. Barnett said he would take over in Mr.Buswell’s role until after May 20.

The NRL is in dissaray today after yesterdays news that one of the strongest clubs in the league has in fact been cheating for the past half a decade.

It was confirmed on Thursday that Melbourne Storm, the club who has dominated the league for the past five years, has in fact been breaching salary cap rules. The club now faces tough penalties which could see them eventually fall from the league.

In the past five years it is believed the club had overplayed their players by $1.7 million, $700,000 of which was paid this year.

As a result, the Storm will have their 2007 and 2009 premierships stripped off them, as well as the 3 preseason cups they have won.

In addition they will have all their premiership points form this year taken away, and will not be able to accrue any more points for the year.

The club will also have to pay $1.7 million in prize money they have won in the past half a decade to the rest of the clubs in the league.

There is now doubt whether the players and staff at Melbourne actually knew what was going on.

Brian Waldron, who was in charge of the Storm during the time, will be investigated and is in doubt of holding his job at the new rugby union franchise the Melbourne Rebels.

Parramatta and Many have both asked for compensation, saying they would have won premierships had it not been for the cheating by Melbourne.

Melbourne Storm now faces a tough battle to remain in the league, and to win back the support of fans that have been lied to and betrayed.

Remember that footage of a Muslim father abusing a channel Nine cameraman last fortnight?

Well, that case has just got a whole lot uglier.

The Melbourne TV news network showed the father losing his cool outside court, but failed to show why he got so angry.

The unedited camera tape reveals how he and his son were provoked by Nine cameraman, Simon Fuller, who then called the father a “f**king terrorist”.

The cameraman has since been stood down, and the case is still pending.

Either way, justice has somewhat been served and hopefully a lesson learnt.

The Hey Dad sex scandal intensified today with news the alleged victim, Sarah Monahan is set to fly from the US back home to Australia to make an official complaint to police.

The actress has made numerous complaints on magazines and on TV abut sexual abuse on the set of the 80s and 90s smash hit sitcom.

While she never revealed names, it was highly implied the man behind the abuse was star Robert Hughes, who played the role of the single architect ‘Dad’ in the series.

Hughes, who now lives in Singapore, immediately denied allegations when confronted by the media and has since organized his legal team to handle the case.

Last Night Monahan, who now lives in America, told Channel Nine she intends on making an official complaint, after police said their was nothing they could do until one had been formally made.

“As soon as people said ‘you need to go to the police’ I was at the airport within three hours and caught the first flight out,” Monahan said.

“We’re headed straight to the police.”

New South Wales police are now on standby and ready to investigate the case.

Hughes on the other hand, has questioned why the investigation is going ahead, claiming he had nothing to do with the claims.

“I’m absolutely, totally shocked at the allegations and I deny, absolutely deny everything,” he said.

“I’m absolutely puzzled as to why this is being said now.”

The Hey Dad sexual abuse scandal is heating up, after Channel Nine’s A Current Affair program accused a former star on the show as the culprit.

Robert Hughes, who played the dad, Martin Kelly, was named by the news show as the man former child star Sarah Monahan claims abused her since the age of nine.

Things have gotten even worse for Hughes, with two more women coming forward with allegations of abuse at the hands of the former acting star.

The 61 year old now lives in Singapore and is shocked by the claims.

“I am absolutely shocked and surprised at this allegation,” he said.

“I categorically deny the allegation. It never happened. The entire matter is now in the hands of my lawyers.”

The female at the centre of all of this, Monahan, last week told a weekly magazine that she was fondled by a man on set numerous times during production of the show, and that he also exposed himself to her.

She refused to name anyone, but did say there were other victims among the cast.

Now living in the US, she said recently she wanted the offender to burn in hell, and that the effects left her suicidal at a young age.

“I remember at school they actually demanded that I have a psychiatrist,” she said.

“In art class I could draw perfect penises. And they were like, there’s something wrong with this person that she could draw stuff like that at that age.

“I think I was at that point where I was probably suicidal.”

Former Aussie smash hit TV series Hey Dad, is back in the headlines this week after allegations a young actor was a victim of sexual misconduct on set.

Sarah Monahan, who played the schoolgirl character of Jenny Kelly, has come out this week with claims a male on the show had fondled her.

Monahan, who was nine years old when she began working on the series, told Woman’s Day magazine of the events on set including a male exposing himself to her.

She did not name the man, nor did she say if he was a member of the cast or the crew.

The former executive producer of the successful series, Gary Reilly, said he was unaware of the allegations, and had not been told about them during the show.

He has, however, admitted to knowing about other allegations made during the series, involving another young actor.

Reilly reportedly organized a chaperone for the actor and approached the person’s parents to discuss the situation.

When he approached the alleged perpetrator about the rumours, the allegations were vehemently denied but ended with the man quitting the show.

“I approached the person on several occasions and we had stand-up rows about it, stand-up blues, to the extent that he resigned and I did not fight it,” Reilly said this week.

“If I ever see him again it will be too soon. He is someone who through his actions has victimized other people, cruelly, unnecessarily and evilly, if these allegations are true.”

“And that makes me extremely angry, extremely angry.”

Controversial AFL player Ben Cousins is back in the headlines this week after numerous visits to the state hospitals.

The Richmond recruit first entered Epworth Hospital last Thursday for a check up on his medical conditions and symptoms of chronic stomach pains.

He was again re-admitted in the hospital this week for a re-occurrence of the symptoms.

Upon his discharge the media have speculated the 31 year-old has been binge drinking for the past 12 months.

The Tigers football club has already warned Cousins against his drinking problem last year when it appeared he was drinking more than the usual amount, and if the speculation is true, it cold be the end for Cousins, who as a history of substance abuse.

However the club released a statement outlining they have not spoken to the 2005 Brownlow medallist about such a matter.

But, AFL CEO Andrew Demetriou says he is concerned about the Cousins’ saga, as he would for any player hospitalized.

“Anytime a player suffers an injury and ends up in hospital of course we worry about them,” he said.

“But hopefully Ben’s getting the best treatment and medication, so hopefully he’ll be on the mend very quickly and back playing football.”

Cousins’ is still in doubt for Richmond’s season opener against Carlton at the MCG next Thursday night.

2010 will be his second year with the club after joining them via the pre season draft after he was banned from playing for12-months for bringing the game into disrepute as a result of his drug addictions.

The good news is that pop princess Whitney Houston has finally arrived in Australia.

The bad news is that her arrival was soured after a she threw a celebrity hissy fit while waiting for her luxury car at the parking terminal.

The decorated singer/actor is down under for a series of performances including concerts at the Acer Arena, Homebush, on Wednesday and the Hunter Valley on Saturday.

It is reported that Houston was furious when her pick up was not there to greet her and was quoted as saying, “This is b******” to those around her.

In total, she only had to wait a little over a minute for her silver Mercedes Benz to whisk her away from the public scrutiny at Brisbane International Airport, but it was enough for her to lose her cool.

One person who felt the wrath of the Houston hissy fit was bus driver Tony Fulan, who said he had a brief run-in with the star after suggesting she take off her hat and sunglasses to soak in the beautiful Queensland morning.

Mr Fulan claimed she told him to mind his own business and “get f*****”.

“The other drivers fell over laughing, but I was stunned,” Fulan said.

Houston traveled with Singapore Airlines in their business class section and arrived at the airport wearing knee-high leather boots, tight jeans and a crisp white button-up shirt, dark sunglasses and hat.

Houston looked every bit the super-star as she strutted through the airport, smiling, waving and giving a friendly “hello” multiple times to curious onlookers.

The headlines keep coming for the late Michael Jackson even in his grave.

Today his private doctor, Conrad Murray, was charged with involuntary manslaughter in a Los Angeles court.

The court heard today that Murray had injected Jackson with the sedative propofol before he died, and that the dose was lethal enough to result in his death.

But while the charges may see Murray spend at least four years behind bars, the Jackson family is not happy with the courts decision. They feel the doctor deserves to be hit with a murder charge instead.

Michael’s brother Jermaine Jackson summed it up in just three simple words: “ It’s not enough.”

But it is the pop kings father who I set to take things further and according to his family lawyer Brian Oxman is set to sue Murray.

“This is a doctor who administered this anesthetic drug to Michael over and over again, many times, and did not have resuscitation equipment or monitors,” Mr Oxman said.

“He had no drugs that could reverse the effects of the anesthetic then says ‘Oh gee, I didn’t mean to’.”

Dr. Murray pleaded not guilty to the manslaughter charge and has paid the $86,000 fee to be released on bail.

It is believed he was on a $160,000 a month wage to care for Jackson and prepare him for his scheduled comeback tour.

Outside the court, thousands of fans held signs of protest and anger, screaming out chants to send Murray away for life.
