After a three-year relationship, a two-year engagement and weeks of drama, it all ended in a phone call.
The news is just in that Michael Clarke has officially called it quits on his relationship with high profile model Lara Bingle.
After much speculation that began last week when the nude picture scandal broke, an announcement was made overnight, with the Australian cricketing Vice Captain fed up with the circulating drama of their love affair.
In a sign of respect for his former partner, Clarke called Bingle’s manager and asked to release a joint statement together. It read only one line.
“Michael Clarke and Lara Bingle have decided to end their engagement,” the statement said.
“They ask the media to respect their privacy during this difficult time. No further comment will be made.”
Clarke, who had abandoned Australia’s tour of New Zealand, is now expected to rejoin his teammates on Monday ahead of the two match Test series against the Kiwis beginning Friday.
The pair had last seen each other on Tuesday and despite efforts for one last face-to-face chat together, Clarke finally decided to call an end to the relationship.
Bingle was seen laughing the drama off with her Sydney girlfriend while she shopped and enjoyed a manicure.
Meanwhile, adding more fuel to the fire was former AFL star Dermott Brereton, who claimed he told Bingle Lions recruit Brendan Fevola was married before she took part in a short fling with him.
