Now, that would be one politician I would be happy to vote for! Unfortunately (despite New Orleans’ best efforts) Brad Pitt will not be running for New Orleans’ mayor.

He has a house and has spent a lot of time in the state because of his charity Make It Right, which produces housing in New Orleans’ Lower 9th Ward after the terrible aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. His Make It Right foundation has a goal of building 150 homes by 2010 for those displaced by the tragedy that caused the loss of 4,000 homes, the charity has unveiled new two-story houses by such famed architects as Frank Gehry, 80, whose work includes the distinctive Guggenheim Museum in Bilboa, Spain. Even though he has done some great work Pitt still vented his frustrations at not being able to do even more for New Orleans.

He’s done such amazing work that he has been branded somewhat of a local hero. So much so that several of the local citizens have banded together to get him elected mayor of the Big Easy. There are T.Shirts and everything!

Pitt, 45, assured interviewer Ann Curry on NBC’s Today show that he won’t be the next mayor of New Orleans. She did try and persuade him though; she held up before him a T-shirt bearing his handsome face with the printed slogan, “Brad Pitt for Mayor.” Pitt laughs. Then Curry says “If chosen, would you serve?” Pitt replies; “yeah, yeah,” then with a sly smile he says, “I’m running on the gay marriage, no religion, legalisation and taxation of marijuana platform. I don’t have a chance.”

Pressed on the matter by Curry, who wanted him to get serious about the question of running for office, Pitt reiterated, “I don’t have a chance.” Finally, he conceded, “It’s not what I do best.”

The other topic he touched upon within the interview was prompted by Curry on his view of true love, which he defined for a magazine; “it’s when somebody else’s interest trumps your own,” Pitt says, “I stand by that.”
