The daughter of pop icon Cher will be soon having a sex change, according to a spokesman. The representative said Cher’s daughter Chastity Bono is to have a sex change to become a man and has already began the gender reassignment process.

The 40-year-old writer and gay and lesbian activist wants to become a man and has made the decision with the support of her husband, the spokesman confirmed via email.

Spokesperson Howard Bragman said Bono had made the decision to “honour his true identity” and is proud of the decision made. Bragman also said Bono was grateful for the support from loved ones.

Bono hopes the decision will open hearts and minds of the public as much as ‘his’ open display of sexuality did almost 20 years ago.
