R&B singer Chris Brown has reached a plea deal in the Los Angeles Superior Court. The star has pleaded guilty to assaulting former girlfriend Rihanna and will serve 180 days community service.
Brown’s lawyers also said he will be handed five years probation for the attack. The singer struck the plea deal with the court and admitted to one count of felony assault against the pop icon Rihanna.
Previously Brown had pleaded not guilty to assault charges. The judge also sentenced Brown to attend domestic violence classes and will be sentenced formally on August 5th.
Along with her lawyer Rihanna had appeared in court after Brown had left the courtroom. She was told by the judge that Brown had a court order imposed not to see her and that she must also stay away from Brown.
Brown’s plea deal sees the R&B star escape a jail sentenced for the assault on Rihanna on February 8, which left her with cuts and bruises to her face. As well as physical scars Rihanna had to cancel scheduled performances as a result of the attack.
Brown had later issued an apology following media scrutiny.
