US actor Dennis Hopper has reportedly filed for a divorce from his wife, Victoria Duffy, while he lay on his deathbed after a long battle with cancer.
The 73 year-old has been battling prostate cancer since 2002 but has recently been told he has less than a month to live after the disease spread to his bones.
Rather than relax and spend his last few days with those he cares about, the Hollywood actor has decided to split from his wife of 14 years in an attempt to cap the amount of money she receives from his will.
Duffy is Hoppers fifth wife, and has spent more time with her than any other previous marriage.
The couple also share a six year-old child together, Galen, who Hopper is fighting to get joint custody of.
According to close sources, Mrs. Duffy is said to be furious about the way she has been treated during her husband’s final days.
While she claims it is not about the money, and rather the love, it is hard to believe that is totally true.
One close friend of he couple summed it up perfectly with their statement:
‘It’s truly a tragedy, and sadly it’s all about the money and who inherits what,’ the anonymous source said.
The brewing legal issue over who gets what from his will is overshadowing the real story, which is the tragic loss the movie industry will have over the next few weeks.
Dennis Hopper has been an iconic figure in the past fifty years, and should be remembered for his brilliance in the acting industry, not the decisions made on his deathbed.
