The accused doctor-killer of Michael Jackson, Conrad Murray, faced court this week over the allegations that have rocker the celebrity world.
Dr Conrad Murray was arrested earlier last month after an investigation into Jackson’s death found that he was hiding drugs and empty vials from the police, as well as delaying phoning emergency services after the pop star had passed out of consciousness.
He appeared for a preliminary hearing on manslaughter charges, which also claim he administered the fatal dose of a powerful anesthetic, usually only used in operations, that killed Jackson.
In a surprise decision, the Las Angeles court allowed Murray to continue practicing as a doctor and chose not to suspend his medical license.
The judge did however hand Murray a $74,000 bail amount and a condition that he may not administer any anesthetic to any patients.
Jackson’s estranged parents, Katherine and Joe, and his siblings, Jermaine, Randy and Janet, were on hand as Murray’s lawyers argued against a move by California’s attorney general to suspend his medical license.
Their faces were stone cold when they heard the news, and Jackson’s fans outside went wild with boo’s and jeers.
While it may come as some god news for Murray, it is far from that for the world’s latest celebrity doctor.
He claims he is now unable to work as his image is so badly tarnished, and that he is so financially inept he is not able to pay for his defence.
The 57-year-old has pleaded not guilty to the manslaughter charges. He told the police that the 50-year-old star was a chronic insomniac who depended on the anesthetic Propofol to sleep.
