Underbelly star Matthew Newton is back in hot water….

The famous actor has reportedly checked himself into a Melbourne rehabilitation hospital for undisclosed reasons.

Those ‘undisclosed’ reasons are believed to be drug and alcohol problems, which is believed to be a vive of the young actor for some years.

It was reported today in the Herald Sun that the 33 year-old had admitted himself in the rehab centre some time this month.

The news comes just weeks after Newton proposed to his actress girlfriend Rachel Taylor, who famously starred in the movie Transformers.

According to the story, Newton’s family, fronted by the much loved father Bert, said they would stick by him no matter what, and that they just want what’s best for their son.

“We want what’s best for Matthew and we are with him all the way,” Bert Newton told the papers.

In addition to Bert, family friend Jillian Bowen echoed those words of the Newton’s, saying she hopes Matthew is doing well.

“Matthew is in hospital at the moment, but we do ask people to understand that this is a private time and we won’t be discussing any details,” She said.

The timing of the events could not be worse, however, with Bert scheduled to make his triumphant return to the small screen when he host the annual Logie Awards on Sunday night.
