Pop icon Michael Jackson has died after suffering a cardiac arrest, US medical and law enforcement sources confirmed, sending shockwaves through the entertainment world. Reportedly paramedics performed CPR on the famous singer whilst transporting him to a Los Angeles hospital, but never managed to get a pulse.

The Los Angeles Times and TMZ.com celebrity news website reported Jackson had died just after 12pm local time when paramedics could not revive him. LA Fire Department Capt. Steve Ruda told the LA Times that paramedics responded to the emergency call, only to find Jackson not breathing.

Celebrity news website TMZ.com reported Jackson was collected by ambulance at his Holmby Hills mansion around midday (0500 AEST). The Times reported the pop icon was in a coma when he arrived at the hospital and pronounced dead by medical staff soon after arrival.

Michael Jackson is survived by his three children: Michael Joseph Jackson JR, Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince Michael Jackson II (Blanket).

Reportedly the pop sensation was planning a comeback, living in Los Angeles whilst rehearsing for his series of sold out London shows. The singers health was in doubt last month after his shows opening dates had been pushed back. But concert organisers stressed the concert delays were not linked to Jackson’s poor health.

Michael Jackson was known as the Pop King for his dominance and reshaping of the music industry. His songs and status in the 1970’s and 80’s made him a recognisable figure, first as a Jackson Five member then on to his successful solo career.

Jackson’s Thriller album still remains the biggest selling album of all time. The Thriller music video was a worldwide hit and a landmark for our generation.
