AFL’s cutest couple is finally over with the shock split of Gary Ablett Jnr and his girlfriend of seven years, Lauren Phillips.
The two released a media statement together outlining their decision to separate from each other.
But the split seems to have been made on positive grounds, with the two publicly stating they will continue to support each other on their future endeavors.
Phillips, who works as a presenter on Channel Nine’s Postcards, said she hopes to find privacy during the emotional time.
“We understand the interest in our relationship, however, we are both very private people with regard to our relationship and we will get through this emotional time through the great support we have from our family and friends,” she said.
“Gary and I remain close friends and we will continue to support each other.”
In terms of her television career, she feels the split will not hinder her media aspirations.
“In terms of my career, I really don’t see any reason why my professional life would be affected because of my personal life as we’ve always kept our relationship private,” Phillips said.
For Ablett jnr, however, the new decision may have a big say on where he plays his future football.
The Geelong football star has been a hot target for the new Gold Coast franchise and now with no girlfriends holding him to Melbourne, he may very well move up north for a change of scene.
