Controversial AFL player Ben Cousins is back in the headlines this week after numerous visits to the state hospitals.

The Richmond recruit first entered Epworth Hospital last Thursday for a check up on his medical conditions and symptoms of chronic stomach pains.

He was again re-admitted in the hospital this week for a re-occurrence of the symptoms.

Upon his discharge the media have speculated the 31 year-old has been binge drinking for the past 12 months.

The Tigers football club has already warned Cousins against his drinking problem last year when it appeared he was drinking more than the usual amount, and if the speculation is true, it cold be the end for Cousins, who as a history of substance abuse.

However the club released a statement outlining they have not spoken to the 2005 Brownlow medallist about such a matter.

But, AFL CEO Andrew Demetriou says he is concerned about the Cousins’ saga, as he would for any player hospitalized.

“Anytime a player suffers an injury and ends up in hospital of course we worry about them,” he said.

“But hopefully Ben’s getting the best treatment and medication, so hopefully he’ll be on the mend very quickly and back playing football.”

Cousins’ is still in doubt for Richmond’s season opener against Carlton at the MCG next Thursday night.

2010 will be his second year with the club after joining them via the pre season draft after he was banned from playing for12-months for bringing the game into disrepute as a result of his drug addictions.
