Disgraced Western Australian politician Troy Buswell has officially resigned as the state treasurer.
West Australian Premier Colin Barnett accepted his resignation and said his friend had run out of political “lives”.
Mr. Barnett held a press conference today and told the media pack there his decision as made after revelations of his affair and admissions that he often used taxpayers’ funds.
It is believed Mr. Buswell used workers money to pay for hotels and other expenses to accommodate his affair.
“You have no lives left. There is no excuse” is what the state leader said he told Mr. Buswell.
“He has however, showed very poor judgment.”
The affair as apparently with Greens MP Adele Carles, and although it is not a sackable offence, it just added to a growing list of no-no’s the politician had.
“While I consider the relationship between Troy and Ms Carles a personal matter, Troy’s actions in relation to the use of his Government entitlements in this matter is unacceptable,” Mr. Barnett added in a statement.
“As a result, this morning I informed the Treasurer that I believed his position as Treasurer and Minister was now untenable. Troy offered me his resignation, which I accepted. This was the appropriate course of action.”
Mr. Barnett said he would take over in Mr.Buswell’s role until after May 20.
